To learn a language, first one has to learn the alphabets, then learn to join them into words and then make sentences. It is the same in Bharatanatyam too.
In this, different body movements, foot movements should be practiced and mastered. For this, items like Alaripu, Jatiswara , Devaranama etc are learnt and practiced.
In a traditional Bharatanatyam concert or margam, Alaripu comes as an invocatory item. It can be done it all Jatis namely Trishr(3), Chatusra(4) Khanda(5) Misra(7) and Sankeera(9).
Starting today, we will learn the Alaripu in Trishra Jati.
The first step in this item is:
Stand ’sama pada’ with both your hands streched straight outwards. Here the sollus begin in first kala.
